Valkenburg Castle is the ruin of the only true hilltop castle in the Netherlands, perched on the Heunsberg above the fortified town of Valkenburg. Beneath the fortress, destroyed in 1672, run centuries-old escape passages and the Kasteelgroeve cave, making it a beloved local landmark.
