Description

Rijnsburg Abbey was founded in 1133 by Petronilla of Lorraine while she was regent of Holland, and it grew into the county's foremost abbey for noblewomen. Active until its dissolution in 1574, the Benedictine community held extensive lands stretching from Aalsmeer to Boskoop and counted abbesses such as Maria Schenck van Toutenburg.
