Abdij van Heylissem

Walloon Brabant· Religious
Description

Heylissem Abbey, in Opheylissem in Walloon Brabant, was founded in 1129 along the Kleine Gete river as a Premonstratensian house that originally sheltered both monks and nuns. From 1142 the nuns moved to a separate site nearby, and the abbey continued as a men's community in the rolling Hesbaye countryside.
